A Four-City Tour of Open Technology Week Completed in Kyiv
Last week Sigma Software held the last Open Technology Week in 2017. Since the beginning of the year, these knowledge-sharing events took place in Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Kyiv. Over 1,000 participants during four Weeks, 10 different technologies and areas covered, 48 speakers, and over 4K dollars gathered and transferred to Charity Funds to support kids with major illnesses. Kyiv Week, that proceeded in a warm and pre-festive atmosphere, became the leader by the number of speakers and attendees.
We have already shared the reports on Open Technology Week in other cities. Last week in Kyiv became very special because of the approaching Christmas time, so nice winter evenings in a good company and with tasty treats will definitely stay at our thoughts for a while.
The further the Week went by, the more interesting it became. On Tuesday, we were glad to welcome gaming adherents. That day we had four speeches, dedicated to creativity in game design, non-social games, specifics of creating UI when it comes to VR games, and trends in iGaming.
.NET meetup, which gathered about a hundred participants, marked the equator of the "Open Technology Week". Speakers shared real practical cases and told about typical mistakes developers should avoid, about using .NET Core in modern projects, and implementing F#.
Traditionally, Thursday and Friday are days of testing and project management, respectively. As usual, these are the most crowded events, but Kyiv really went through the roof. During the Software Testing meetup, together with our speakers and the audience, we have examined the milestones that appear on the test engineer`s road to hell. Then we listened about the test team dynamics and defects in root cause analysis.
Friday night is usually a go out night, isn’t it? We spent it even better – in a company of 100+ project managers, who came to master the most effective coaching approaches; learn how you can ruin a project just using Agile/Scrum and how to avoid it; envisage Kanban as another approach for gaming projects.
During five meetups, we have gathered and gave to charity 41,430 UAH. We really hope that this will help sick children to recover; Christmas really should bring a bit of miracle!
We thank all the speakers and all participants, who attended our Open Technology Week in Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Kyiv. We`ll be happy to meet you again in the coming year!
