Joining Gaia-X Initiatives for Secure Sovereign Data Exchange

Sigma Software has become a partner of Gaia-X European Association for Data and Cloud AISBL. In this role, we will help ensure secure, sovereign data exchange and advocate Gaia-X trust framework, while supporting our clients who face increasing requirements on data residency, jurisdiction, and transparency.

Across Europe, sovereign cloud is shifting from a niche concept to a business necessity as regulations like the Data Act, NIS2, DORA, and EUCS redefine how data is stored, processed, and governed. Organizations in sensitive sectors—healthcare, finance, government, media—must modernize on cloud platforms while guaranteeing data residency, legal jurisdiction, and transparent handling. Sovereign cloud resolves this tension by combining the agility and scale of modern cloud with verifiable controls and governance, enabling digital transformation without compromising authority over sensitive information.

Why Partnering Gaia-X European Association for Data and Cloud

Following this shift, Sigma Software has joined Gaia-X to deepen our sovereign cloud capabilities and support clients facing mounting requirements on residency, jurisdiction, and transparency. Gaia-X was launched as a member-driven association according to Belgian law by 11 French and 11 German organizations to ensures secure, sovereign data exchange and service interactions across multiple providers.

The aim of Gaia-X is to create the de facto standard to enable federated and trusted data and infrastructure ecosystems, by developing a set of specifications, rules, policies, and a verification framework. Thus, businesses, individuals, and governments will get secure, transparent, and sovereign control over data through a decentralized cloud infrastructure.

Anatoliy Kochetov, COO of Sigma Software, commented: “Joining Gaia-X is a strategic step for Sigma Software that strengthens our commitment to European data sovereignty and compliance. It gives us direct access to a federated ecosystem where standards, verification, and interoperable services are shaped collaboratively. That means we can help our clients adopt sovereign cloud patterns faster and with greater confidence, while enabling new cross-industry data collaborations that are secure, transparent, and legally robust.”

As a member of Gaia-X, Sigma Software gains access to a trusted ecosystem and the community that fosters innovation, collaboration, and scalability across industries, all while ensuring compliance with European and local regulations. Together with other participants, we will play a role in co-creating cutting-edge standards for secure and interoperable data infrastructure, unlocking new business opportunities while staying compliant with European regulations. We will have an opportunity to connect with leading industry experts, influence key technological developments, and drive the digital transformation of tomorrow.

As a Gaia-X partner, we will be better positioned to:

  • Align architecture and data governance approaches with emerging European standards.
  • Design models for secure data collaboration across partners and suppliers.
  • Support organizations preparing for industry data spaces and cross-ecosystem digital platforms.
  • Provide clear guidance on where sovereign cloud patterns are relevant and how they can be adopted progressively.
Oleksandra Kovalenko, Head of Partnerships and Alliances at Sigma Software, adds: “Gaia-X opens a powerful channel for Sigma Software to contribute across multiple domains. We bring deep expertise in cybersecurity and compliance, blockchain, smart city and digital twin, adtech, ehealth and edtech platforms, data sovereignty, connected manufacturing, finance and insurance. Through Gaia-X, we can help design interoperable, verifiable patterns that accelerate trustworthy data sharing while keeping regulatory, technical, and operational risks under control.”
