Open Technology Week Rocked Odesa
The third “Open Technology Week” came to Odesa in early September. The series of five meetups, taking place every night from Monday to Friday, already became a good tradition. After gathering IT communities in Lviv and Kharkiv earlier this year, it now welcomed Odesa specialists to share experience and network in a soft and pleasing atmosphere of the seaside city. All the raised funds were sent to a charity fund to purchase equipment and medication for a kids regional burn care center.
Thirteen speakers from all over Ukraine, five directions, hands-on experience, over 320 attendees, new friends – this is how we spent this eventful week in Odesa.
Tuesday was dedicated to Big Data and review of the internals of Spark SQL Joins. Then Sigma Software expert shared the story of how to develop a Data Platform that will reach one million events per second.
The week equator was celebrated by Data Science meeting. The speakers raised one, though very hot topic – time series. Task assigning, data analysis, correct results validation, applying linear algorithms and gradient boosting, using classic econometric approaches and neural networks – these are only some of the questions the audience investigated together with the experts.
The forth night we were pleased to welcome test engineers. Speeches by proficient QA and test specialists raised the issues of risk based testing, employing models for improving test processes, and what the automation testing is really about.
We have finished with a meetup for project managers, where we tried to understand how to create an accurate fixbid estimate; how to learn on own mistakes and avoid shooting oneself in the foot every time; discussed how to satisfy customers expectation, so they`d stay with you for years.
We`d like to thank every participant. With your help, we managed to gather 33,000 UAH.
“The Open Technology Week is a social and community development initiative by Sigma Software that already took place in three Ukrainian cities, welcoming over 750 specialists and 34 speakers.
